The deceased was identified as Chandrakant Panchal, a resident of Mehsana, who was a retired Talati of Mehsana
A complaint of murder and kidnapping was lodged with the Mehsana police station after a retired Talati (Executive head of Village Panchayat) was kidnapped and murdered by two accused for a ransom of Rs 25lakh.
The incident took place on Monday night in Mehsana. The deceased was identified as Chandrakant Panchal, a resident of Mehsana, who was a retired Talati of Mehsana. According to the police, they recovered a half burn body on Tuesday morning near a dumping yard of Mehsana area. Panchal's son was then informed who is a doctor in Mumbai and a case of kidnapping and murder was lodged with the police station after police came to know about the ransom call received by Panchal's son.
During the investigation, the police nabbed two accused identified as Ravi and Himanshu.
Panchal used to work in the post recuring department after he got retired. He used to daily visit the accused Himanshu's shop and used to count the money. Himanshu's friend Ravi was in huge debt and both of them then made a plan to kidnap Panchal and to extort money from him.
On Monday afternoon, both abducted Panchal in his car and killed him. They even made a call to Panchal's son from his phone and asked for a ransom of Rs 25lakh from him for the release of his father. Panchal tried to escape during which both the accused started beating him and he died.
After he died, they took his body to a dumping yard in Mehsana and tried to burn his body with the help of petrol and fled from the spot.
