Rain continued to lash south Gujarat for the third consecutive day on Tuesday even as it continued to give a miss to most other parts of the state, including Ahmedabad. According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), light to moderate rains are likely in parts of Saurashtra and Kutch over the next four days.

The IMD said monsoon was vigorous over Gujarat region, and heavy to very heavy rainfall, with isolated extreme heavy falls occurred in the state in 24 hours. However, the intensity was lesser on Tuesday.

Officials at the State Emergency Operation Centre (SOEC) in Gandhinagar said Subir taluka of Dangs district recorded 52 mm rainfall between 8 am and 6 pm on Tuesday, the highest in the state. It was followed by Dangs taluka with 24 mm, Nizar in Tapi district with 16 mm, and Dharampur in Valsad with 12 mm.

Some parts of Navsari and Bharuch in south Gujarat, and Kheda, Dahod and Chhota Udepur in central Gujarat also received some rainfall.

With the exception of Jafrabad taluka of Amreli, which received 4 mm rainfall during the day, zero rainfall was recorded in other parts of Saurashtra. No rainfall was recorded in north Gujarat and Kutch regions either, according to the officials.

However, the IMD said light rainfall was likely in Chhota Udepur, Panchmahals, Mahisagar, Sabarkantha, Aravalli, Gandhinagar, Porbandar, Dwarka, Okha and Kutch in the next 24 hours.

IMD's regional director, Jayanta Sarkar said at a high-level review meeting in Gandhinagar that intensity of rain in the state had dipped as the upper trough above Gujarat had dispersed and the upper air cyclonic circulation had moved away from East-Central parts of the state to Central India.

In the meanwhile, chief secretary JN Singh visited the State Emergency Operation Centre in Gandhinagar and took stock of the administration's preparedness for relief and rescue work.

The ministry of water resources said that the water level in Damanganga basin in Valsad and the union territory of Daman & Diu could rise rapidly during the next 48 hours. It said that since the level in Madhuban Dam in Valsad is low, there will be good inflows increasing the water level and storage in the reservoir.

13 NDRF teams deployed

Officials said that 13 teams of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have been deployed as a precautionary measure in Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Junagadh, Amreli, Surendranagar, Patan, Surat, Tapi, Sabarkantha, Chhota Udepur, Kheda, Vadodara, and Valsad.
