Farmers in Gujarat, affected by Ahmedabad – Mumbai Bullet train project, will conduct a four-day march beginning June 22 in all the 192 villages of the state that will be affected by the project. They are opposed to the forcible acquisition land and say that their fertile land is at a risk because of the project.

Farmers, led by Gujarat Khedut Samaj (GKS) will carry out the Yatra from Gandhi Ashram in Ahmedabad on June 22, will take a night halt at Anand, Ankleshwar, Navsari and Valsad and will end at Dungra village in Valsad district. "Farmers in all the villages are opposed to project as it will render their fertile land useless. Moreover, the due process to acquire land is also not followed. Government is forcibly acquiring land and farmers are not consulted. No Environment Impact Assessment or Social Impact Assessment are conducted. Everything is on paper but nothing on ground. There is absolutely no consultation with the farmers," said Jayesh Patel, president of GKS. Patel informed that GKS will take a referendum.

"These will be an affidavit. We will send the compiled report to Japan government and all the Japanese agencies involved in the project. Sagar Rabari, secretary of GKS had earlier said that Japanese government and agencies are very strict on the social and environment impact of the projects funded by Japanese money and it seems that they have been misguided about the kind of human and environment impact of this project.
