Probe if Hardik Patel's words hurt Brahmins: Gujarat High Court

The Gujarat High Court has ordered local police to investigate whether the alleged remarks by Patidaar Anamat Andolan Samiti (PAAS) leader Hardik Patel against Brahmin community constitute an offence. If so, the court said that an FIR should be registered against Patel.

It is alleged that Hardik's statements had hurt the sentiments of Brahmin community. Brahma Samaj, representing the Brahmin community, has objected to alleged remarks by Hardik against two Brahmin girls in December 2017 during the campaign for elections to Legislative Assembly of Gujarat.

One Abhishek Shukla, representing Brahma Sangharsh Samiti had, then approached Chandkheda Police Station in Ahmedabad to register a complain against Hardik. However, the police did not register the complain. Shukla then approached the HC. Shukla's advocate R Rajput presented the case in the court and submitted the necessary documents.

Justice JB Pardiwala ordered examination of evidences submitted on behalf of Shukla as well as investigate whether there is case to register an offence.
