The time has come when politicians should stop thinking about elections and start focussing on the next generation. And, only then the country is going to go forward,"said BJP MP Varun Gandhi during his visit to the city on Friday.

Gandhi was addressing the students of Karnavati University on Justice delivery and the impediments before it.

Speaking about why India has not reached where it should have reached, Gandhi said, "India has been lagging behind in investment and innovation."

Citing a Niti Aayog report, he showed that while India has the largest number of startup enterprises, it also shares the dubious distinction of birthing the largest number of unsuccessful startups. Most funders tend to give up on startups in just three years. While those in the foreign countries show great patience. Amazon, for instance, reportedly had employed over 3000 market research professionals four to five years ahead of its launch in India. Excellence and success come after long term investment in research and futuristic planning."

Lauding the Right to Education, Gandhi said, "It is a good initiative and Rs 2.5 lakh crores are being spent every year. But, it is not as successful as it should have been only because 89% of all the spending is on building the buildings and no investment is on teachers. Lack of research leads to all of this. There are 91000 Indian PhDs in Ameria and 48000 American PhDs in America. This scenario has emerged as we do not pay well to a high level researcher. Another drawback in education is that very few researchers are linked to industry. Whereas in America, a person doing a research needs to work with industry for six months."

"Four hundred years ago, textiles accounted 42% of India's GDP where as right now it is just 4%. The reason is that we never patent protected our handloom and hence the sector died. The IT sector on other hand has witnessed a massive decline. Top companies say that while they are looking for people with machine learning, data science and cyber crime, 4.7% of them simply know basic coding. Time has come when political people stop thinking about next elections and think about net generation," he said, while talking about patent protection.

He urged them to challenge and have their voice heard through various means. Calling for them to invest more attention to issues that concern the country, he asked them to learn to demand transparency and accountability from politicians through social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter. Merely asking for change will not bring them, he made clear. The youth has to make change happen.

In terms of political reforms, Gandhi voiced his thought of MP's who have declared more than 25 crores of assets give up their salaries to save 480 crores of state exchequer a year. He also spoke about right to recall, need for open dissemination of data to curb corruption and civic society interaction.
