Police on Sunday arrested two more people in connection with the scam of siphoning off arrears of more than 800 employees of Ahmedabad District (Rural) police. Sarkhej police inspector Mukesh Patel said those arrested were KD Vaghela, a senior clerk-cum-cashier, and Mohammad Salim Ansari, who retired as senior clerk of Rural police a year ago.
Earlier, Patel had arrested Girish Parmar, a constable-cum-computer operator and Yogesh Sharma, a senior account clerk. All four accused were assigned the task of preparing arrear records of more than 800 employees of rural police. After interrogating Sharma and Parmar, cops learned the duo had embezzled Rs30.9 lakh by altering the arrears records and transferred that money into their account.
“After questioning them, we found that Vaghela and Ansari were also involved in the case. They have been running the racket for two years and have siphoned off Rs84 lakh.
However, we suspect that the amount will rise after further investigation,” said Patel.
