Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Saurashtra in February to inaugurate a new phase of the Saurashtra Narmada Avataran Irrigation (SAUNI) scheme. The scheme is aimed at supplying drinking and irrigation water to the parched Saurashtra region.
A senior official from the Gujarat government said, "The PM will inaugurate SAUNI projects in Amreli, Jamnagar and Rajkot districts. He may visit all three places or may chose one destination and address people from all three districts."
"This visit is believed to be important before the Lok Sabha elections, because Saurashtra is a politically important region, and drinking water is an issue that may woo voters from the region," he added.
The Saurashtra Narmada Avataran Irrigation Scheme aims to utilise Narmada water to provide relief to the parched region of Saurashtra, which also happens to be a politically crucial part of Gujarat
