"Companies in IT, electronics and Internet of Things (IoT) from Taiwan are interested in setting up manufacturing facilities in Gujarat. During Vibrant Gujarat Summit (VGS), we will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with them," said Maulik Bhansali, chairman of GESIA IT Association, while interacting with media persons in the city on Tuesday. GESIA represents close to 400 technology companies in Gujarat.
Gujarat will also act as a hub for export of these products in Africa, countries of the middle-east and even Europe. "Gujarat has a huge manufacturing base in sectors like pharmaceuticals, petrochemicals, textile, automobiles and other sectors. Now a young generation is taking control of the business, they are going for modernisation and digitization of businesses," said Tejinder PS Oberoi, vice chairman of GESIA. IT spend of local companies shot up from Rs 400 crore in 2004-5 to Rs 36,000 crore in 2015-16.
Increasing digitisation of manufacturing sectors will require additional 5,000 odd jobs in the next three years. As of now, IT and associated sectors in Gujarat employ about 3.5 lakh persons. IT exports from Gujarat stand at mere Rs 2,500 crore according to figures of Software Technology Parks of India .GESIA is also tying up with academia to solve problems of clients. It is also setting up help-desks for Intellectual Property (IP), Human Resources and legal matters, where IT companies from Gujarat can seek solutions and enable their companies to grow faster.
