Eight breath analysers will be placed in areas like Vastrapur, Satellite and other western parts.

On this New Year’s Eve be careful if you are flying too high on your celebration spirits. Chances are Ahmedabad cops may put you through breath analyser to ascertain that your joie-de-vivre is ‘purely’ abstemious.

Promising to be a little bit more stringent with those who are planning to throw a liquor party, cops sources say, they will now be equipped with eight breath analysers strategically deployed at different location to catch people in alcohol-induced high spirits.

Talking to DNA, the assistant commissioner of police, AM Sarang said that this time police department will be using breath analyzers, especially on the areas which are well-known for the liquor parties during New Year. Out of these eight breath analysers, three will be placed in the interceptor cars.

Sources said that these cars will be moving across the city and will keep a watch on cars that are under suspicion. “We have placed experienced police inspectors who are practical enough to nab those car only, based on its speed and the style of driving,” Sarang said.

Areas like Vastrapur, Satellite and other western parts of the city will be mainly focused.

These officers will be also be deployed on SG Highway to ensure that no unwanted thing happens to the usual party goers. The other five breath analysers will be used by five teams of inspectors who will be monitoring different parts of the city.

Further, in order to avoid untoward incidents, police will also be deployed on the cross roads and major junctions to check drunk driving.
