Parched houses, Chamanpura locals protest outside councillor's home

Around 200 people who staying at Chamanpura in Asarwa ward staged a protest outside the house of their local councillor Suman Rajput on Friday. The protestors said they had been deprived of water since last three years and the municipal commissioner, who they met on Thursday, have asked to approach the local councillor.

"We met the municipal commissioner on Thursday and told him about the water problem. He asked us to come here. He also asked us to hold a protest," said Jitendra Sharma, one of the local activists and resident. The angry mob marched to the site in a rally.

"An octogenarian who had carried a garland for the councillor was also heckled. This was a symbolic protest," said Sharma.

One of the local councillors of the ward, Bipin Patel, was also at the protest site.

"The locals met municipal commissioner on Thursday. I'm not aware of what he told the people. But, there is a problem in several slums. We are aware of the issue. New pipelines will have to be put to get rid of the problem," said Patel.

There are 80 houses where there is no water since last three years. "It is shameful. And, there is nobody to hear them," said former leader of the opposition, Badruddin Shaikh.
