Ahmedabad city police have booked around 2,000 people regarding the violence that took place on Tuesday regarding the protests against the release of Padmaavat.

Around 44 people have been arrested by the police so far, and they have details of 70 more people who were involved in the violence.

On Tuesday Karni Sena members went on a rampage in Ahmedabad, setting fire to around 49 vehicles outside theatres and pelted stones at around 10 shops and 6 malls.

According to a police officer, Karni Sena members had permission to conduct a peaceful candle march there near Iskcon temple. He added that towards the end of the rally, anti-social elements present in the march formed groups and dispersed to six malls and started vandalising the shops and setting fire to vehicles parked outside the malls.

The members had their face covered and were armed with lathis, stones and petrol bottles in hand.

KLN Rao, Sector- 1 JCP, said, "We have booked around 2,000 people in the matter and around 44 have been arrested. Four cases have been lodged with the Vastrapur and Satellite police station regarding the matter, under Attempt to Murder, Damage to Public property, Rioting etc."

"We suspect that the entire incident was pre-planned and we have started an investigation regarding the matter by recovering CCTV footages of the incident to identify the people involved in the violence. We have been able to identify around 70 people who were involved in the violence and more will be identified," Rao said.

J.K Bhatt, JCP of Crime branch, said, "During the investigation, they have revealed that four main persons were behind the entire planning of the violence and they have identified all four. We will reveal their names once they are caught by us and regarding the matter, we are investigating."
