Over 8.7 lakh candidates in Gujarat will appear for the Lokrakshak Recruitment Board exams this Sunday. Over 9,000 posts of Lok Rakshak (armed and unarmed) and Jail Sipais will be filled with the shortlisted candidates. The successful candidates will be offered Rs 19,000 a month for the initial five years, sans perks. Later, they will be confirmed as part of constabulary force.

The exam, earlier scheduled for December 2, was cancelled after its questions were leaked just hours before the test. A handwritten version of the answer key to the now-cancelled exam was leaked on social media. The exam was later rescheduled for January 6. The Gujarat government has now put in place strict security measures to prevent a repeat of the incident. The paper was leaked with the help of a Delhi-based gang that specialised in such crimes.

In all 15 people have been arrested across five states in connection with the leak. Among the accused are two former constables of Delhi police, one of whom was fired after being found out that he had provided fake documents.

The other had been an accused in a similar paper leak case in 2017. The gang had taken post-dated cheques of Rs 5 lakh from the aspiring candidates from Gujarat who had travelled to Haryana to take a look at the papers. They were told to memorise the questions but some of them had surreptitiously managed to copy the questions and their answers.

Earlier, the government had elaborated the additional steps being taken to prevent cheating including CCTV cameras in all the over 29000 classrooms and deployment of cops in each exam centres.

The exams will be held at over 2,400 centres between 11 amd and 12 pm. The government offered 1,400 state transport buses to ply the candidates on Saturday and Sunday. The state had earlier in a release said over 30,000 bookings had been done by candidates for the service by Friday and had promised additional trips to ease travel.
