State officials breathed a sigh of relief on Tuesday as Cyclone Ockhi weakened to a deep depression system by Tuesday.

"There is no threat of cyclone anymore for Gujarat. The cyclone is turned into a depression. Activities of rain may subside. Some of the coastal areas are likely to get rains. Interior areas are likely to have drizzles till Wednesday noon," said Mahesh Palavat, chief meteorologist at Skymet Weather.

Nonetheless, moderate to heavy rain is expected across coastal districts of Gujarat on Wednesday. Parts of Saurashtra and south Gujarat are expected to receive rains for the next three days. According to IMD, Ahmedabad is likely to get intermittent rains on Wednesday. The state government has advised people to stay alert but not to panic.

The arrival of Ockhi also meant that many districts received unseasonal rainfall.

According to Skymet Weather, the deep depression system will continue to move north-northeastwards. It was expected to weaken further and cross the Indian coast between South Gujarat and adjoining North Maharashtra near Surat by Tuesday midnight.

While December is generally dry, Ahmedabad last received a measurable amount of rainfall in 2010.

"I am very much confused whether to wear sweater or raincoat. The weather is playing with us literally! But it is good time to have fun when office give us a holiday," said Anusha Shah, a professional from Vastrapur area.
