A month after cricketer Ravindra Jadeja's wife Rivaba joined the BJP, now his father and sister have also taken the plunge into politics and on Sunday joined the opposition Congress. Jadeja's father, Anirudhsinh, and elder sister Nainaba, were welcomed into the party at an election rally in the Kalavad town of Jamnagar district by Patidar reservation stir leader Hardik Patel, and Congress candidate from Jamnagar Lok Sabha seat Mulu Kandoriya. The Jadeja family hails from Jamnagar.

Jadeja's wife Rivaba, who had joined the BJP on March 3, was speculated to be a potential BJP candidate for Jamnagar Lok Sabha seat. However, the party fielded sitting MP Poonam Madam as its candidate from the seat.

Incidentally, Patel was expected to be the Congress' candidate from Jamnagar, but the plan fell throught after the top court rejected his plea to stay his conviction in a rioting case, wherein he was sentenced to two years' jail.
