Home-buyers in Gujarat need no more have to waste time in franking and getting stamp papers. State government, on Tuesday, said it has created an online application facility through which buyers can pay stamp duty from any location.

According to a statement issued by the state government, the move is a step towards digital governance. Revenue Minister Kaushik Patel said under the existing system while buying a home, the buyer has to get stamp papers or get the document franked or get e-stamping certificates. Now they will be able to make payments through online application from their place of residence. The move will also ease the situation as buyers are often facing a shortage of stamps, which causes delay and hardships while making payments.

"The government is committed for making administration people-friendly and reducing human interface in the administration. As a part of it, more revenue services are made online in a phased manner. In yet another step in this direction, the government has created an online application so that people can make payments online while buying their homes," said the statement quoting Patel.

The process of paying stamp duty is tedious. One has to take a token from the office of the registrar and then wait till the turn. All these hassles will be avoided. As one does not have to personally visit the office of the registrar, the process will reduce human intervention.

Apart from this, the receipt of the payment will be verified by the office of the registrar and can be verified whenever needed. This will also prevent duplication of records.
