Prahlad Modi, brother of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has been served notice by the estate department of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) for illegally constructing a five-storied building in Rabari Colony of Indrapuri ward.

The younger brother of the PM and president of Gujarat Fair Price Shops and Kerosene Licence Holders' Association, Prahlad Modi, has illegally constructed a commercial complex spread across 360 square meters near Rabari Colony crossroads in Mangaldeep Estate's shed no 4. The AMC served first concern notice on February 6 this year, almost one and a half years after the building had been constructed. The second notice was issued on March 21, 2018.

Officials from the civic body said that the construction was illegal and hence they had asked Modi to stop the construction and first get his plan approved. Modi, however, continued with the construction. After serving his notice two times, the civic body officials, in the third notice, have informed Modi that they are going to pull down the illegal construction.

"Earlier, there was a simple shed which was gradually converted into a concrete structure. Neither of these were permitted. We have informed the party via notice that we are going to demolish the structure on July 17," said a senior civic official.

The leader of opposition Dinesh Sharma raised a question as to how the civic officials hadn't noticed the illegally constructed five-storied building in the last two years. "How come the gigantic building of five floors escaped the view of civic officials? Why did it never come to their notice in the last two years?" Sharma asked.
