Interestingly, the complainant in the case is BJP's former MLA Jagrupsinh Rajput.

In the 21-year old case, the metropolitan court had ordered the Crime Branch on Wednesday to arrest all these accused and produce them before the court on January 30th. One of the accused Ilesh Patel on Thursday got the NBW stayed from the court.

The case is from 1996, when the then stalwart leader in BJP Shankersinh Vaghela had led revolt against the party high command and had over thrown the BJP from the power. He had organized a public rally at Sardar Patel Stadium, where the leaders were alleged to have been attacked by BJP loyalists. Vaghela's staunch supporter Atmaram Patel's dhoti was pulled by the members of the mob and as brutally beaten.

A criminal complaint was lodged by the Vaghela supporter Jagrupsinh Rajput with the Naranpura Police station in this connection. Later the investigation was transferred to the crime branch of Ahmedabad. The accused in the case were Pravin Togadia, BJP leader and MLA Babubhai Patel, Ilesh Patel, then BJP corporator Krushnavadan Brahmbhatt, advocate Minesh Vaghela and others.

The state government had recently filed a request to quash the case, but the Sessions court had rejected the same. The said order was challenged, but was not entertained and after taking it on record, records were sent back to the trial court. Hearings began in the trial court, but the accused had failed to appear. Following this, the court has issued NBW against them.
