Right across the road of city's first museum Sanskar Kendra, stands country's premier design institute, hoping to transform Sanskar Kendra into India's first design museum.

Seven years ago, the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad, had proposed to the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation to transform Sanskar Kendra into one of the finest design museums in the country. However, since then, the design institute, every year has been rigourously pushing their wish for betterment of the citizens but all in vain as there is no response from the AMC.

Pradyumna Vyas, Director, NID said, "In 1961, NID began its classes from Sanskar Kendra and hence it is a very iconic structure for us. It will be an honour to be able to transform it into a design museum and a design centre. I feel disturbed to see the Sanskar Kendra, built by great architect Le Corbusier being put to no use. Sanskar Kendra, city's first museum, has great potential to be made as a design museum. We need more spaces to celebrate culture, heritage and development and let younger generation connect with it. Our future has to be built on past heritage and it is the duty of planners to look into it. We have resources to make it happen as it is pride of city."

Interestingly, during an inauguration of a competition held at NID last year and attented by Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, Vyas had proposed to the CM to transform Sanskar Kendra into India's first deisgn museum.
