No meeting of women's committee in two years, says Gujarat government

Not a single meeting of the Gujarat State Women's Security Committee has taken place in the last two years, the state government said in the Assembly on Tuesday.

The information was provided by Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, who also holds the home portfolio, in response to a question by Congress MLA Jawahar Chavda, who sought to know if it was true that no meeting of the committee had taken place in the two years as of August 20, 2018.

"The Gujarat State Women's Security Committee was formed via a resolution dated July 16, 2014, and its term ended on July 15, 2016. As a result, its meeting has not taken place," Rupani stated in the written reply.

As per government rules, the committee is required to hold four meetings in a year, i.e. once every quarter.

The committee is supposed to propose various initiatives for women welfare, and to supplement the government's efforts.
