Narcotic Control Bureau of Ahmedabad nabs Nigerian with Rs 1.5 cr cocaine

Drug was brought from Mumbai and was meant to be delivered in city

Sleuths of Narcotic Control Bureau (NCB), Ahmedabad, arrested a Nigerian with 273 grams of Cocaine on Friday. The accused was arrested from a luxury bus near CTM area in Ahmedabad. He had boared the bus from Mumbai, police said.

The drug would cost around Rs1.5Cr in the international market, police added.

The accused had allegedly got the contraband from Mumbai and was supposed to deliver it in Ahmedabad. Zonal director of NCB, Hari Om Gandhi, got a tip-off about the Nigerian few weeks ago. He was told that a foreigner would carry the consignment in a luxury bus and deliver it in Ahmedabad on August 10.

Responding to the lead, a team of 8 officials was deployed near CTM on Friday.

Police recovered two packets of biscuit from the accused in which he had concealed 273grams of cocaine.

"The accused has been nabbed. We are yet to find out his identity. He is around 27 years. He also has othe ridentity details on his Id proof. He confessed to changing his names several times during the interrogation. He is not ready to disclose his identity," Gandhi, Zonal director of NCB, said.

The accused has also fessed up to delivering contrabands worth the same amount thrice in last one month. The last contraband was delivered on August 2.

"We are trying to get more information about the buyer in Ahmedabad whom he had delivered the contraband thrice and was going to deliver this one too." said Gandhi.

NCB officials suspect that around 750 grams of cocaine have been delivered to Ahmedabad over last one month.

DGP orders crackdown on drug trade

State’s Director General of Police (DGP) Shivanand Jha has directed police to carry out a special drive to crack down on trade of drugs in the state.

The DGP has directed that an action plan be prepared to curb availability of drugs and narcotic substances such as marijuana, hashish, among others in the state. The top cop has instructed the Special Operations Group (SOG) teams to conduct raids to prevent sale and consumption of drugs.
