Apart from money laundering and illegal monetary transactions, Narayan Sai was allegedly involved in purchasing property in the name of his aides, too.

Police said that besides his trusted associates Ganga, Jamuna and Hanuman, Sai had purchased property in the name of Kaushik Patel and Kaushik Vani, former personal assistants of Sai.

Police drew this conclusion after checking documents recovered during raids at different Asaram ashrams in the state and across the country.

Sources said papers showing investments in more than 90 properties — measuring thousands of square metre — bear names of Sai’s aides as owners. Meanwhile, investigation into assets registered in the name of Ganga, Jamuna and Hanuman has already begun.

Numerous Kisan Vikas Patra (KVP) were recovered during raids at a house belonging to Asaram’s aide Sunil Sevani in Ahmedabad. Blank papers bearing signatures of Sai aides were also found.

Sources said that after buying KVPs in his aide’s name, Sai used to take his signature on a blank paper to prevent the aide from claiming the KVP in future.

In a related development, Surat police summoned Sai’s aide Chandan Soni from Faizabad in Uttar Pradesh. Sources said he had provided shelter to Sai and also made arrangements for his new hideouts. However, in his statement to the police, Soni denied all the allegations. While tracing Sai’s location, police had stumbled upon Chandan’s links with him.
