The hunt for the new vice-chancellor (V-C) of the Gujarat University (GU) will now kick off. The academic and executive council (EC) of GU has appointed the V-C of the MS University of Baroda Yogesh Singh as one of the members of the search committee to look for the new GU V-C in a meeting convened on Thursday.

There are three members in the search committee formed to shortlist suitable candidates for the GU V-C post. While the GU appointed one member to the committee, the Joint Board of Vice Chancellors (JBVC) will select the second candidate and the third will be nominated by the Gujarat governor.

The candidate nominated by the governor will become the chairman of the three-member committee.

Singh had also nominated as one of the members from the GU’s academic and executive council when the process to look for Dr Parimal Trivedi’s successor was initiated. Earlier on, Singh’s nomination had faced severe protests from Narhari Amin, then Congress member, as the former is considered a member of the Rashtriya Svayamsevak Sangh (RSS).

“Amin had opposed because he also thought it wouldn’t be fair to have two V-Cs on board. This time, no objection was raised by Amin who has shifted his loyalties to the BJP. Singh’s name was instantly cleared,” said a source.

Apart from the nomination, the GU EC also sanctioned an order to purchase answersheets at the rate of Rs4.08 per sheet.
