Mock drills were carried out by officials of National Disaster Management Teams across several districts — including Gandhinagar, Banaskatha, Aravalli — on Friday. In Ahmedabad itself, the mock drills were held in five areas. The areas included Ranip GSRTC bus stand, Shahibaug police line, Reliance mall in Shahibaug , Collector office and Ahmedabad International Airport.
Except for the airport, there were other places where the medical emergency mock drills were also carried out. Teams of task forces, comprising ambulances, disaster management teams, Ahmedabad fire and emergency service, civil defence and police officials, were deployed.
The operation started at around 9 am and ended by 2 pm. "This was done to carry out these drills to ensure that rescue and evacuations can be carried out when real-time disasters strike," said MF Dastoor, Chief fire officer of Ahmedabad fire emergency services.
Chief executive officer of Gujarat State Disaster Management Authority, Anuradha Mall said, “It was very smooth operation as our administration was very prepared to manage the calamity. We have come to learn that there is a scope of improvement in quick response system and that we will fulfil in very short time.”
