Ahmedabad Crime Branch sleuths on Wednesday arrested the key conspirator and his aide in connection with the murder of transporter Suresh Shah. Rajendra Shekwa was arrested from Surendranagar and his friend, Ghanshyam,  was nabbed from Rajkot.  Shah was gunned down near Vishweshwar temple in Vasna on March 10.

Five people, including Shekwa, have been arrested by the Crime Branch. The investigation revealed that Rajendra Shekwa had given a contract of Rs50 lakh to bump off Shah.

Shekwa had hired Elam Khan and Rafiq Sumra to find out Shah and the places he visited daily. After the initial research, Shekwa got Ghanshyam out of jail and hired one Ravu Khachar, a shooter, to kill Shah, said the Crime Branch sleuths. While Khan and Sumra were arrested on April 1, Khachar was arrested from Chotila on June 14.

AN ACT OF REVENGE?

  • According to Crime Branch, Rajendra Shekwa, who is a contractor, had an old enmity with Shah.
     
  • Shekwa had allegedly abducted Shah in 2006 and taken him to Rajkot and thrashed him in a farmhouse
     
  • No complaint was lodged in the case
     
  • Shekwa was shot and suffered injuries in 2009.
     
  • Shah and a shooter were later arrested
     
  • Shah was acquitted in 2017 November
     
  • Shekwa was looking for revenge, many sources say
