Heavy rains in Ahmedabad on Tuesday morning compelled many schools to either shut early or agree to the request of parents to send back their wards.

“We sent children on request of parents but also made a note of which child went with which group, to be sure,” said Pragya Pandya, principal, St Kabir School.

Manan Choksi, trustee, Udgam School, said, “At 9.30 am, we decided to declare holiday and accordingly communicated it to parents.”

MP Chandran, executive director, Asia Charitable Trust, said, “We had closed pre-primary in the morning itself. Depending on the intensity of the rain and request from parents, we decided about leaving the students early.”

Lamiya Shums, director, Anand Niketan, Shilaj, said, “We had decided to shut the school early but as the sky got clear, we changed our decision.”

Surender Sachdeva, principal, Delhi Public School, Bopal, said, “Our buses departed early due to water-logging in the city. Closing early was no solution as children are safer in school campus than on roads and jammed traffic.”

Even Rachana School did not shut early. Officials said, “Children are safer inside the school.” The school authorities selectively sent the kids when their parents turned up at the school.
