Tehmul Sethna was nabbed by police from his house and was taken to metro court, where his remand was rejected
Tehmul Sethna, the chartered accountant of Ahm-edabad-based realtor, Mahesh Shah, who was in the middle of a controversy owing to his disputed Rs13,860 crore declaration, under the IDS on December 1, 2016, was nabbed by Navrangpura police on Wednesday under charges of cheating and betraying that was lodged against him on December 7, 2017.
Sethna was nabbed by police from his house and was taken to metro court, where his remand was rejected. As per police, a complaint was lodged by Shivangi Panchal, a resident of Navrangpura, and one of the trustees of Environment and Research Development Centre Ahme-dabad trust. The trust was found in 2000. Her father Pannalal Modi died in 2006 and the trust was transferred to Shivangi and her sister Parul Modi. Sethna, at that time, was the CA of the trust. After winning the confidence of the sisters to run the trust and opening a trust’s account without their knowledge, Set-hna carried out financial tra-nsactions worth Rs6.85crore.
It was also revealed during investigation that Sethna withdrew money from the account after falsely obtaining Parul’s signature. The probe further revealed that 22 cheques were deposited at the bank with fake signatures of Parul. AM Parmar, an inspector of Navrangpura police station, said, “A complaint was lodged with us on December 7, 2017. Acting on it, we nabbed the accused identified as Tehmul Sethna from his house. We had taken him to the metro court for remand, but it was rejected by the court.” He has been arrested by the crime branch.
According to the police, in December 2016, another case was lodged against Tehmul Sethna with the City Crime branch by his ex-wife Kamalrukh, a therapist, who lives in Mumbai. She alleged that Sethna withdrew Rs1.3Crore from her account by forging her signature.
