The Aam Aadmi Party, which is eyeing the 2014 elections, on Sunday, announced the formation of the Gujarat state executive committee. Twelve members of the committee were announced including Sukhdev Patel, who was named the convener.

Sanjeev Srivastav has been named as the secretary of the committee while Naman Doshi is the treasurer.

Taking potshots at the Modi government dilly-dallying on the appointment of a Lokayukta, member of the national executive committee of the party, Manish Sisodiya said that while the state was yet to begin the process for the appointment of the Lokayukta, the Aam Admi party had already appointed a Lokayukta for the party.

“Justice TU Mehta, former CJ of Himachal Pradesh has consented to be the Lokayukta for our party in Gujarat. He will probe allegations of corruption, if any, against any member of our party in the state,” said Sisodiya. He said unlike other parties all contributions and expenses of the Aam Admi party will be updated on the website to ensure that the process remains transparent.

Sukhdev Patel said they will send a public notice to the chief secretary for the appointment of the Lokayukta in the state. “In absence of any action we will file a contempt petition against the state government,” said Patel.

It should be noted that the party has managed to form district level committees in 16 districts of the state. “We are still in the process of forming committees in 10 districts of the state,” said Dinesh Vaghela, another member of the national executive committee.  He said that efforts were also on to appoint Lokayuktas at the district level to so as to address allegations of corruptions against any members.

Referring to the recent state budget, Patel said that it did not reflect the tall promises that Modi had made during his election campaign. “The CM had toured all districts of the state and announced that he would set aside big funds to help in their development. But unfortunately his recently announced budgets failed to live up to the grand promises,” said Patel.
