Lok Sabha Election 2019: One Congress, 7 BJP nominees file papers

Seven BJP candidates, including six MPs, were among those who filed their nomination papers.

Forty-four nominations were filed for the April 23 Lok Sabha elections on Monday, the state’s chief electoral officer S Murali Krishna said.

Seven BJP candidates, including six MPs, were among those who filed their nomination papers.

Ahmedabad West MP Dr Kirit Solanki submitted his nomination at the Ahmed-abad district collectorate. BJP MP from Kutch Vinod Chavda filed his nomination papers in the presence of Chief Minister Vijay Rupani.

The party’s candidate from Navsari CR Patil, Kheda candidate Devusinh Chauhan, Bhavnagar candidate Bharti Shiyal, and Sabarkantha candidate Dipsinh Rathod, were the other sitting MPs who submitted their nominations.

Lunawada MLA Ratansinh Rathod, nominated as the BJP candidate from Panchmahal, also filed his nomination today. Ranjitsinh Rathwa, Congress candidate from Chhota Udepur ST seat, was the lone Congress candidate to submit his nomination papers today. Hardik Patel’s former aide Reshma Patel, who quit BJP recently, filed nomination as independent candidate from Porbandar. With these, fifty-eight nominations have been filed for the LS polls so far.

  • The last date for filing of the papers is April 4. More than half of the BJP candidates, most of the Congress nominees are yet to file their papers. 
     
  • Five independent candidates filed their nominations for 5 assembly by-polls today.
