'Labourers called to police station, given electric shocks': Labour contractor

A contractor on Friday alleged that the Riverfront West police staff called his four labours for recording their statements related to the Ellis bridge charred body case. Upendra Tiwari, labour contractor, alleged that the cops brutally trashed his labours and even gave them electric shocks during interrogation. Regarding the matter, no application and complaint have been lodged with police.

On June 12, a charred body was found near Ellis bridge area. It was suspected that the man was killed and his body was then burnt. A case was lodged with Riverfront west police station. During investigation, it was found that the victim was attacked on head with a sharp object which led to his death. The accused later burnt his body. The victim is not yet identified, and no details of the accused have been traced.

On June 13, the cops called the labourers from a construction site at Riverfront to record their statements, after several hours of questioning, they were all released. Tiwari alleged, "When his labour returned, they were brutally beaten up and even given electric shocks by cops. They were not in a condition to stand still."

Police inspector MA Sinh denied the allegation and said, "We agree that around 13 to 15 labourers were taken to the police station. But they were allowed to leave after they gavc their statements. All the allegations are false." He further added, "We are ready to take down the complaint. Some of the contractors who visited the police station have decided file a complain on Saturday. If there is any staff member is involved in the matter, we will take strict action against them."
