Khurshid Saiyed to head AICC minority department

Khurshid Ahmed Saiyed, an advocate, was appointed chairman of the minority department of All India Congress Committee on Saturday. He has been serving the party as the general secretary of Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) for nearly seven years.

Saiyed started his political career with Janata Dal and became a municipal councillor of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) in the year 1987. He served the position till 2000 and was later appointed as the general secretary of GPCC in 2006-07 and 2008-2010.

As general secretary, Saiyed played a key roll in planning, organising and monitoring all political programmes in Gujarat. He was also responsible for correspondence, attending complaints and making representation before the central and State Election Commission. He is associated with different trade unions, Maulana Azad Foundation and Prime Minister’s 15-point agenda for the upliftment of minority. 

On his appointment as the minority department head, Saiyed thanked the party high command and said he will get the minority community more organised. “I will try to solve certain issues of the community,” said Saiyed.
