Office bearers of Gujarat High Court Advocates' Association (GHCAA) on Sunday met Chief Justice of India (CJI) Ranjan Gogoi in New Delhi to discuss the issue of transfer of the senior-most judge of Gujarat High Court Justice Akil Kureshi to Bombay High Court. A written representation was also submitted by the lawyers' body against the "vindictive" tran-sfer of Justice Kureshi.

GHCAA president Yatin Oza, secretary general P Jadeja, and joint secretary Hardik Brahmbhatt, during the hour-long discussion raised their concerns over the transfer and requested the CJI to reconsider the decision. Notably, the CJI-led collegium had recommended the transfer of Justice Kur-eshi on October 29 and his transfer order was issued on November 1.

As per the transfer order, Justice Kureshi is supposed to assume office at Bombay by November 15. The lawyers' body already went on an indefinite strike after the transfer order was issued. The bar association argued that Justice Kureshi cannot be transferred as the fifth senior-most judge of Bombay HC post which he is likely to retire without any elevation as the CJ of any HC or or to the SC.
