Leaders of Bharatiya Janata Party and Congress visited Jagannath Mandir in Jamalpur, on Wednesday, on the eve of Ashadhi Bij Rathyatra in the city. Chief Minister Vijay Rupani also inspected the preparations. All the three deities were decorated with special clothes and a cloth was tied around their eyes, as per the customary tradition for Thursday's yatra.

This will be 142nd Rathyatra in the city and will cover 22 km along its traditional route. On Wednesday, 'pratistha' of all the three chariots was performed in the afternoon following which a meeting of Peace Committee – comprising of representatives of different religions was held. A special 'Mahaarti' and special prayers were conducted in the evening. During the day Congress leaders Amit Chavda, Paresh Dhanani and Siddharth Patel also conducted prayers at Jagannath Temple.

On Thursday, the day will begin with Mangala Aarti at 4:00 am. Union Home Minister Amit Shah will perform the aarti. Special Bhog will be offered at 4:30 am, followed by tribal dance and ras-garba at 5:00 am. The cloth around the eyes of the deities will be removed and they will be put on the chariot at 5:45 am. Finally the yatra will begin at 7:00 am. Chief Minister Vijay Rupani and Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel will lead the devotees in pulling the chariots. A number of tableau, akhadas and 16 elephants will also join the yatra.

It will cover the route along Jamalpur Chakla, Vaishya Sabha, Gollimda, Astodiya Chakla, Madangopalni Haveli, Raipur Chakla, Old Khadia Gate, Khadia Crossroads, Panchkuva, Kalupur Circle, Kalupur Bridge and will take a lunch break at Saraspur, where 'Mameru' (special offerings by maternal uncle) will be performed.

Post lunch, the yatra will pass along Kalupur Bridge, Kalupur Circle, Premdarwaja, Jordan Road, Bechar Laskhkarni Haveli, Delhi Darwaji, Halimni Khadki, Shahpur Darwaja, Shahpur Chakla, Rangila Chowkdi, Otampol, R C High School, Delhi Chakla, Ghhekanta Road, Pankornaka, Fuwara, Chandlaol, Sankdi Sheri, Manekchowk, Danapith, Gollimda, Khamasa, Khamasa, Jamalpur Chowkdi and finally arrive at Jagannath temple at 8:30 pm.

Elaborate security arrangements have been made for the Rathyatra. Close to 25,000 security personnel have been deployed along the route to prevent any untoward incident. Close to a hundred CCTV cameras have been placed at 45 locations. Bomb Squad and NSG have also been deployed. Special surveillance will be carried out using drones. Vehicular traffic, along the yatra route, will also be diverted and alternative routes have also been announced.
