Many IPS officers are waiting for a change of office address as the state government is gearing up to execute a fresh round of transfers shortly.

The transfer orders, according to sources, have almost been sanctioned. But the state home department is waiting for the final approval before it could be announced officially. Many top-level IPS officers would be shifted in the first round.

Sources said Surat commissioner of police Rakesh Asthana and Intelligence Bureau additional director-general of police Shivanand Jha are gunning for the post of Ahmedabad commissioner of police as SK Saikia is about to retire.

Similarly, Ajay Tomar, who is about to go to the Centre on deputation, may be replaced by inspector-general of police, Hasmukh Patel, while there is a buzz that even the deputy commissioner of police, zone 1, could be replaced in this round of transfers. There are less chances of joint commissioner of police, Sector 2, SG Bhati, being transferred.

Sources said deputy commissioner of police Himanshu Shukla could be replaced by Manindersinh Puwar, superintendent of police of Bhavnagar district. Also, the names of two other officers are doing the rounds for this post.

Mohan Jha, ADGP, law and order, could be transferred to Surat as CP while ADGP, Prison, PC Thakur, and SP of Sabarmati Jail, RJ Parghi, could also be transferred. Sources said the transfers could be divided into two phases and the first phase is expected in the next few days.
