The much awaited gadget of the year, iPhone 5 has officially made its debut in Gujarat on Friday. While a few stores have already started delivering the gadget, more are likely to begin retailing the smartphone from Saturday.
Inquiries have been pouring in on the only iStore in Ahmedabad near SG Highway for iPhone 5 since the time of its launch in the US. The price of the phone starts from Rs45,500 for the 16GB model in India.
“The phone is sold at the same price as at the iStore and deliveries will begin from Saturday morning. The deliveries which are taking place will be for bookings made in advance.
If the customer books now, they may get shipment within a week,” said an industry source close to the development.
Airtel and Aircel are the two telecom companies that had begun started taking pre-bookings for the latest iPhone in Gujarat as well as the rest of the country.
In case of Airtel, the telecom operator has already delivered a few handsets in the city on Friday. “We have seen an overwhelming response for iPhone 5, even compared to the iPhone 4S in Ahmedabad.
We started delivering the phone from Friday but had limited stock. On Saturday, more phones are likely to be delivered,” said an official from Airtel, but refused to divulge sales or booking figures. Similarly, Aircel has witnessed a mad rush for the iPhone 5. “The demand and even the number of deliveries of the newest iPhone are beyond expectations.
It seems people from the country want to bring in this Diwali with iPhone 5,” said an official from Aircel.
