The seed of friendly relations was sown in April 2007, when PM Modi met Japan PM Shinzo Abe in Tokyo. The same bonhomie will be seen blossoming further on Wednesday. PM Modi then had held discussions over the Delhi-Mumbai industrial dedicated freight corridor project.

Modi had also showcased tourism sites related to Buddhism in Gujarat and had also invited Abe to Gujarat. Almost a decade later, Abe is arriving to Modi's home land, Gujarat, on September 13 and 14 keeping the promise he gave to Modi back then. Later in 2012, when PM Narendra Modi, the then CM of Gujarat, met Shinzo Abe during his second Japan visit of four days.

The courtesy meeting took place in Tokyo and it was then that they vowed to strengthen Indo-Japan ties for multi-sectorial development in both the nations.

During his four days visit to Japan, Modi had written on his blog, "Japan and India have enjoyed a historical relation as well as a deep cultural bond… Apart from a common administrative culture, both India and Japan believe in liberal societies and democratic governance. Thus, it is hardly surprising that India and Japan have become extremely close over the years."

"This visit will surely be a 'win- win' situation for both Gujarat and Japan both in terms of economic and cultural forms of cooperation."

Back then, PM Modi had also travelled in the bullet train in Japan and had addressed the investment seminar of Japan External Trade Organisation (JETRO) on July 23, 2012. He had also envisioned the bullet train in India that will be a possibility with the foundation stone laying ceremony to be performed by Modi and Abe on September 14 morning at Ahmedabad.

Former secretary in Industries department of government of Gujarat Maheshwar Sahu said, "Modi is a visionary and has a technological leaning in all sectors. Japan is the forerunner in the field of technology. This is the reason why he has given preference to Japan."
