The first 'anti-hijacking' case of the country has been registered against Birju Kishor Salla, 37, of Mumbai on Tuesday by the Ahmedabad Crime Branch after he was arrested on the charges of planting a note in the lavatory of a Jet Airways flight, which said there were 12 hijackers and explosives on board.

The probe of the case is likely to be handed over to the NIA in 48 hours. Deepen Bhadran, DCP, Crime Branch, said, "It is for the first time that an anti-hijacking case has been registered under the Anti-Hijacking Act, 2016."

The 9W 339 Delhi-Mumbai Jet Airways flight had taken off from Mumbai at 2.55 am on Monday. When one of the crew members found the note in the tissue box inside the lavatory, he informed the pilot and the plane was diverted and landed at the SVPI airport in Ahmedabad around 3.45 am.

Sleuths said interrogation of Bhalla, who was arrested following interrogation of the six passengers who had used the toilet on the basis of the footage of CCTV installed near the cabin door, revealed that he was in love with one of the flight's Public Relation staffer in Delhi. He wanted to make her quit the job and thought destroying the name of the airlines would help, sources said.

Bhalla was living in Mumbai with his 70-year-old father Kishore, mother Minal and wife Ishika and has a gold and diamond jewellery wholesale shop in Zaveri Bazar.

It was also revealed during investigation that he had written the note in English and then to give it a terror angle, translated it into Urdu with the help of Google translator. He took its print out from the computer of his office and then planted it into the lavatory of the airline.
