To encourage students to become writers, the Gujarat university, in a first, will offer a certificate course in book publishing. The course is being offered by the National Book Trust, Ministry of Human Resource and Development. The course will be held from January 23 to January 31 and is open to young graduates and post-graduates, who are directly or indirectly related to the publishing industry and are inclined to learn more about it and to new entrants in publishing, who may wish to gain an overall view of the profession that can give them a bright future.

Speaking about the same, professor Ranjana Argade, Head of Department of Languages at the Gujarat University said, "There is no age bar but, we would prefer young students. The lectures would be conducted by experts from the National Book Trust and hence, it will be a very enriching and extensive course. Classes would be conducted from morning to evening. This is the first time that such a course is being organised. This would help students understand publishing. In case a student wants to pursue a career in publishing or get into writing, such a course would be beneficial."

A total of 60 seats are reserved for this certificate course. Eminent professionals from leading publishing houses in India will provide insights into various aspects of book publishing, Argade added.
