IIMA announces 5% fee hike, PGP course to cost Rs 22 lakh

With this hike, the fees will be around Rs 22 lakh. The decision of the hike was taken in a board meeting that was held on Saturday.

The Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad on Saturday announced 5% fee hike for its flagship Post Graduate Programme in Management. Last year, the institute had hiked its fee by 7.7 % making it Rs 21 lakhs. 

With this hike, the fees will be around Rs 22 lakh. The decision of the hike was taken in a board meeting that was held on Saturday.

Confirming the same, Errol D'Souza, IIMA Director said, "The decision of 5% fee hike has been taken in the board meeting which was held on Saturday and this is in line with inflation."

On IIMA Act, he said, "We are waiting for government to forulate the rules which will provide the framework to fix ordinances. The Act has given autonomy to the board to run affairs of the institute." A total of 576 students received their degrees at 53rd convocation that was held on Saturday. Giving a concluding note, IIMA director shared the winds of change and gender equality at various programmes.

TURBULENT TIMES, POLITICAL UNCERTAINTY: He said, "This is a period of extensive economic turbulence and political uncertainty. International alliances and trading blocks are showing signs of wear and tear. 

In politics, we have extreme candidates who at the same time are popular and the sustainability of growth is in question. Our energies at the institute at such times are focussed on asking what we should be doing and helping future managers to learn so as to deal with these turbulent times.

To the graduating students, he said that the world is mobile. Increasingly I find alums are living as transnational families where each member is in different locations. When we move out to geographical areas, we leave behind relationships as very often when we anticipate we that will not spend much time in one place and we begin to put less efforts to do things to benefit the society.

Best top managements act like doctors but think like patients, said Dr Janmejaya Sinha, Chairman of the Asia-Pacific region and a member of the firm’s Executive Committee at The Boston Consulting Group during his covocation speech. Sinha was the chief guest at the 53rd convocation of the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad.
