Actor-turned-politician Paresh Rawal on Wednesday expressed pride for being invited to the Statue of Unity inaugural event.

"It was really an honour for me to play the role of a great character like Sardar Patel in his biopic. His personality was a bit above everyone. He was meted out with injustice by his own people. It gives me a great feeling when Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP showered this honour on him," Rawal said.

"If Jawaharlal Nehru would not have born, someone else would have been the prime minister of India. If Dr Rajendra Prasad would not be there, someone else would have been made the president of India. But if Sardar would not have born, there would not be the existence of India," he added.

The Lok Sabha MP from Ahmedabad East said that the Congress always politicised Sardar Patel's contribution to India and independence.

“They never liked Sardar when he was alive and take him as an eyesore after death too. They did nothing for Sardar. This kind of event can make BJP’s position stronger in India,” he said.
