Sadhvi Jayshree Giri, who had escaped from police custody on June 14, was caught near a toll booth on the Udaipur-Nathdwara highway in Rajasthan late on Tuesday. Her six-year-old son was also with her.
The sadhvi, who was arrested in a cheating case, had given the slip to four police personnel escorting her from Himalaya Mall. The crime branch set up three teams to track her down.
The team that arrested her comprised PSIs Jatin Patel, Jain Goswami, Ashok Chawdari, ASI Pooja Rathod and ASI Chandravali Ratnu. While talking about the operation, officials said the sadhvi was using her mobile phone and police kept track of her movements.
However, she switched off the phone near Chiloda toll booth. On the basis of the routes, officials concluded she was heading toward Rajasthan. They started scanning CCTV footage at each toll booth along the way. At the Udaipur toll booth, they spotted footage of the sadhvi seated in a red-coloured car with someone else in the driver’s seat.
Inquiries revealed the driver had taken a return ticket. Armed with this information, they kept a vigil at the booth. Sure enough, the car returned to the toll both on Tuesday night and the Crime Branch team immediately swung into action and arrested her.
