The Gandhinagar Urban Development Authority (GUDA) has launched an affordable housing scheme for the lower income group (LIG) in Chiloda, Raysan and other villages. The GUDA is offering a two BHK house at Rs7.5 lakh only.

As part of the BJP government’s poll promise of building 50 lakh affordable houses in the state, GUDA has initiated action for LIG houses.

The authorities have invited applications from the lower income group for an affordable house with a construction area of 36.65 sq m that will have a drawing room, a kitchen, two bedrooms and a study room along with other basic amenities. The authorities are offering the house at a cost of Rs7.5 lakh to LIG families having an annual income of up to Rs2.5 lakh.

“In the first phase, 1,200 houses are under construction and construction of another 800 units will begin soon. It will take about two years for the project to complete,” said GUDA chief executive officer D Thara.

The houses are being built in Chiloda, Raysan and other villages falling under the purview of GUDA. The applicants will have to deposit Rs25,000 along with the application form which would be available from May 30 to June 30 and the forms can be submitted till July 31.

Incidentally, the GUDA has issued application forms with barcode and will not allow the form to be photocopied so as to avoid the duplication of forms. It has also made it categorically clear that the authorities have not appointed anybody as agent for distribution and collection of forms barring Dena Bank and Bank of Baroda. And, the scheme is restricted to the LIG residents of the Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation and the GUDA area only, who do not own any house.
