There will be no likely relief from the heavy rains for two more days, as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy to very heavy and extremely heavy rainfall at several places in the city over the next two days. The state government has asked authorities to remain alert due to the rain forecast.

Meanwhile, the IMD has said that heavy to very heavy or extremely heavy rainfall is very likely at isolated places over Gujarat region on Tuesday and Wednesday. It also warned that heavy to very heavy rains are likely at isolated places over Saurashtra and Kutch on Wednesday.

Jayanta Sarkar, director, IMD Ahmedabad, said that northern and eastern parts of the state are likely to get extremely heavy rains over the next two days. “The rains can be attributed to the low pressure area lying over south Rajasthan and neighbourhood and an associated upper air cyclonic circulation. A trough line has been created from south Gujarat coast to north Maharashtra, which will also lead to good rains across the state,” said Sarkar.

Gujarat is in the middle of a heavy spell of rain. Almost all parts of the state have been receiving heavy to very heavy rains for the past few days, leading to flooding in several areas. This is expected to continue for at least two more days.

According to officials, the state has received more than 56% of its annual average rainfall so far, a large part of it in the last week or so.
