Heavy rainfall in store for south Gujarat and Saurashtra

The Met department has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall for pockets in south Gujarat and Saurashtra region during the next five days. According to officials, the entire state of Gujarat will get rainfall this week.

"At present there are two different systems operating which will result in good rainfall in the state," said Jayanta Sarkar, director, India Meteorological Department (IMD), Ahmedabad. "An upper air cyclonic circulation over south Gujarat will cause heavy rainfall in the region as well as in Saurashtra. Another system over Odisha will result in rainfall in north Gujarat. Ahmedabad, too, is going to get light to moderate rainfall in a day or two."

According to private weather forecast agency Skymet, the city will get good rainfall between July 11 and July 15. "Good rains are expected over Ahmedabad between July 11 and July 15. south Gujarat and some other parts of the state are going to get moderate to heavy rainfall this week," said Mahesh Palavat, chief meteorologist, Skymet.

For the past two days, pockets in Saurashtra and south Gujarat region have received good rainfall. Unmargam in Valsad district received 188mm rain on Monday while Amreli district recorded more than one inch of rainfall in two hours on the same day.

The city will receive light to moderate rainfall on Tuesday, according to the Met department. The maximum temperature is expected to remain around 35 degrees Celsius while the minimum temperature will be around 27 degrees Celsius on Tuesday.
