The state high court has reserved its order on two bail applications by Sadhvi Jayshree Giri, the submissions for which concluded on Tuesday.

In the last hearing on July 16, Giri’s advocate had requested for more time as she had escaped from police custody while submitting that she had given no instructions regarding her bail applications. Hence, the 10th single bench justice RH Shukla had kept the matter for final hearing on Tuesday.

Giri’s advocate on Tuesday submitted that no decision had been taken on the remand application and hence she should be granted regular bail. Opposing the applications, original complainant Pritesh Shah submitted that if an accused could jump parole, she could not be trusted to cooperate with the investigating agency or not run away from prosecution.

The state government too opposed the bail applications on the same ground and submitted that police need to get information from her about persons who helped her in escaping from police custody and those who had given her shelter. If at this stage she is granted bail, it may adversely affect investigation, the government argued.

A Palanpur-based jeweler had lodged a complaint against Jayshree Giri for cheating and not returning Rs5 crore. He claimed he had given her the money as advance payment as she had promised to provide him gold at cheaper rate.

Metro court sends Giri to 2-day police remand

The metropolitan court on Tuesday ordered two-day police remand for Sadhvi Jayshree Giri for jumping parole and escaping from police custody in Ahmedabad on June 14.

Giri’s son Rudra Barot was given conditional bail by the court.

While seeking three-day remand of Giri, the crime branch had argued that after escaping from custody, she had fled to Rajasthan in a Swift car owned by Badal Desai. The officials claimed that they needed to interrogate her for information on Desai and another person from Rabari community as they were yet to be arrested.

They also stated that they wanted to find out who had helped her escape and who had sheltered her during the days when she was on the run. They also wanted to find out when and how the entire escape plan was made.
