Urging graduating students of Nirma University to have the courage to stand up, Former Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra on Saturday told the students not to hesitate in doing so.

"Courage is the mother of all virtues. Not to fight against 'Adharma' at the relevant time shows lack of courage. Similarly, when it is not required to show bravery, but one reflects so, it exhibits lack of intellect", he said while addressing students at its 27th convocation ceremony where he felicitated 567 students.

He further added, "Be makers of history, not losers of history. You will come across a lot of people who will discourage you and ask you to conform to the present norms. Have the courage to disagree."

He also urged students to engage with the outer world. "We need peace, positivity and humility in the world today. A discordant view of another does not make someone an alien. A fair amount of discussion leads you to the establishment of a society of flexibility that proceeds on the path of progression where each one is part of the cohesive whole in spite of the differences. That is the sign of maturity."

He asked the students to cultivate universal rationalism by immersing in 'Swadhyaya'.

Speaking about the importance of educational institutions, he said, "Educational institutions have an important role in igniting the minds of our future generations. The maturity of a society has to be judged in terms of the consciousness of the young generation towards their obligations and duties towards society. Everyone must carry forward the idea of national integration and idea of fraternity which formed principal ideals of Ambedkarian philosophy."

Learn to romance with education. Maintain respect for our ancient culture and social traditions and to help in the social and economic progress of the country. Never let down three mothers in your lives. Biological mother, your alma mater as the foster mother and lastly Mother India, Misra said.
