State energy watchdog increased the Fuel and Power Purchase Price Adjustment (FPPPA) charges for electricity consumers of Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Ltd by 20 paise from Rs1.90 to Rs2.10 while that of Torrent Power Ltd (TPL) has remained unchanged at Rs2.11 per unit for July-September quarter of 2019-20, said energy expert KK Bajaj. This increase of 20 paise per unit will put a burden of Rs.177 crores per month on 1.4 crore consumers of Gujarat.

Gujarat Energy Regulatory Commission (GERC) increased FPPPA charge of GUVNL from Rs1.90 to Rs2.10, while that for TPL has worked out to be Rs1.96 per unit for the first quarter of 2019-20 but due to pending amount GERC has directed TPL to continue with FPPPA of Rs 2.11 per unit for its Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar and Surat consumers from their electricity bills of July, August and September, said Bajaj.

"It seems that GERC has put sealing on FPPPA charges at above value. Any amount above this sealing will be released by GERC in phased manner when FPPPA amount drops below these sealings," he said. It was observed that actual FPPPA for first quarter of 2019-20 has been Rs.1.92 per unit and GERC has approved pending amount of 18 Paise/unit of previous quarter making a total chargeable FPPPA of Rs 2.10 per unit for three months.

GUVNL purchased record power from Adani Power Ltd first time crossing 4000 Million Units. The power purchased by GUVNL from Adani Power is still cheaper than from its own power plants operated by Gujarat State Energy Corporation Ltd (GSECL) which is above Rs. 4.50 per unit. Adani has increased tariff after CERC order dated April 12, 2019 approving compensatory tariff as recommended by High Power Committee constituted by Gujarat government.
