Gujarat unlikely to get rain for a week

At a time when the state is already short of rainfall since over a week, weathermen have predicted none at least for the entire week. The prevailing dry weather is likely to continue for a few more days as a result.

South Gujarat is expected to remain dry till Sunday, while the region could get scattered showers/light rains and isolated medium spell of rain in a few days. Rainfall is expected to remain below normal in this pocket.

Saurashtra, Kutch and the rest of Gujarat is likely to remain dry. Some parts of this region may receive light rains, especially over coastal districts of Saurashtra and bordering districts.

At present, southwesterly to westerly winds are prevailing at lower levels across the state. "Light to moderate rains/thundershowers very likely at isolated places of Gujarat region. No large change is expected in weather till Sunday," stated a bulletin by the Met department.

Ahmedabad to remain cloudy but no hope for rain

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasted light rain in some parts of the city while the sky is likely to remain cloudy on Wednesday. The maximum temperature is expected to remain at around 33 degree Celsius while the minimum temperature could be at around 26 degree Celsius.

At the end of July, rainfall deficiency remains 46% in Gujarat

The state has received 54.17% rainfall by July-end, making it rainfall deficient by 45.83%. Last year by the end of July, the state had received 80.52% rainfall, according to the data of the State Emergency Operation Centre.

Ahmedabad city has received 24.15% rainfall. The annual average (1988 to 2017) rainfall of city 803 mm against which it has received 194 mm of rainfall this season so far.

Kutch region has received only 11.08% of rainfall so far while Saurashtra region has received 59.50%t. South Gujarat region which has witnessed flooding situation has received 73.06% of rainfall this season.
