Following state education department’s instruction, Gujarat University (GU) will soon initiate the process to appoint a full time vice chancellor (V-C). The authorities need to select one of their members in the search panel for the post of V-C at the state’s largest university.

Acting vice chancellor, Dr Mukul Shah, said that the meeting of the executive council (EC) has been called on Thursday morning.

“Meeting has been called with the single point agenda of finalising the name of a member as a part of the search committee to look for the next V-C,” said Shah.

As per the norms, search panel has three members.

Of the three, one of the members is appointed by the concerned university’s EC, the second member is suggested by the joint board of vice chancellors (JBVC) and the third member is suggested by the Gujarat governor, who also becomes the chairman of the three-member committee. With the EC finalising the name, the process to start the hunt for the new V-C has begun.

Shah’s tenure as pro- V-C will end in July next year. It is expected that the new V-C will be appointed at the GU before his tenure ends.
