CM Vijay Rupani says technology has changed the modus operandi of criminals. The ways of committing crimes have changed and we need to develop new techniques to deal with them
Experts associated with internal security across the world called for a cooperation across police agencies and the need for a new approach to fight cyber crime. Yilmaz Colak, president of the International Association of Police Academies (INTERPA) and head of the Turkish National Police Academy, said that it was important to have national, regional and international police cooperation if one were to fight cyber crime .
"New technology creates new criminal opportunities although criminals do not need a computer to commit a crime. One should realise that identity theft and such crimes associated with cyber crime existed even before the advent of computers. Today, they are using available technology to commit the same crime," said Colak. He was speaking at the 8th INTERPA Conference held at the Gujarat Forensic Sciences University (GFSU).
Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani who addressed the gathering of representatives from 36 countries said the conference would provide a new dimension to understand cyber crime. "New approaches are needed because cyber threats have manifested in difficult ways and it is important to sit together and come up with a unified response to strengthen cybersecurity systems," said Rupani.
"Cyber crime is a challenge to citizen's privacy and poses a threat to national security to all countries," the CM said.
"Technology has changed the modus operandi of criminals. The ways of committing crime has changed and we need to develop new techniques to deal with them."
Rupani offered expertise and infrastructure in the field of cybersecurity for academic research and training purposes. The event saw GFSU signing an MoU with the Academy of Ministry of Interior, Uzbekistan, Law Enforcement University, Mongolia and Karagandy Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Kazakhstan.
