The Gujarat police has denied that there has been any transaction of money in the paper leak case that was unearthed on Sunday, just a few hours before the recruitment test for constables was scheduled. However, sources in the police accept without being quoted that agents had collected Rs 1 lakh from candidates and there had been a quarrel among them regarding the distribution of money.

The chairman of Lok Rakshak Bharti Board in Gujarat government and ADGP Vikas Sahay and Gandhinagar District Police Superintendent MJ Chavda, in two separate press conferences on Monday ruled out the possibility of money transaction.

The sources from the police and investigating agency said, "The rate for the paper was fixed at Rs 5 lakh, of which the candidates had to pay Rs 1 lakh before the test. The accused persons in this case had lured some 50-odd candidates and had promised them that their money would be returned if the actual paper was not the same as the leaked one. And if the questions asked were the same as the ones revealed to them, they would have to pay the remaining Rs 4 lakh after the exam."

Rupal Sharma, the rector of a private hostel had roped in candidates from her hostel and a meeting was also held to collect the money and distribute it among all the agents involved in the scam.

"As the agents started quarrelling, Rupal had doubts about how genuine the leaked paper was. To verify the matter, she approached one PSI Rajendrasinh Borana, a member of the board she knew and sent him messages on WhatsApp with the questions on the leaked paper. Borana was shocked to see the exact questions that were to be asked in the exam in Rupal's messages and informed his boss Sahay about the issue," added the sources.

The police, in the days to come, may arrest more people who had paid the agents involved in this paper leak case. They will also make some of them appear as witnesses in the case to dig deeper, added the sources from Gujarat police.
